Although there has not been a formal announcement from Access Holding or the bank, Nigerian politicians and friends have begun to share tribute to the CEO.
Herbert was the Group Managing Director/CEO of Access Bank Plc after succeeding his business partner, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede from January 2014 to April 2022.
His death came as a shock to millions of Nigerians but he had shared several posts about life.
On January 19, 2024, the Access Bank boss said, “Today and always, let us remember that life is a precious gift – a chance to breathe, feel, love, experience and connect.
“Let’s honour this gift by living with purpose, kindness, and gratitude, making every moment count. Let us number our days.”

On January 29, the Access Bank boss shared a life lesson where he encouraged his followers to embrace the lessons in failure that comes their path.
“Success is a meaningless word without failure. I have failed many times, but in every wrong turn, and every misstep, there are important lessons. Embrace them. They sculpt the path to success.”

In a January 27, 2023 post, Wigwe advised followers on “Keeping the body active because a healthy body fuels a resilient mind.” He added, “How did you kickstart your day?
The banker also admonished in a post on X saying extraordinary organizations, great leaders humbly acknowledge that wisdom is a collective journey.
“Let us cultivate a culture where learning is shared, and success is a team effort. How are you contributing to collective learning?” Wigwe said in a post on January 22 this year.
In another post he shared on January 15, Wigwe encouraged his followers to be very visionary.
He said, “Be a visionary at the helm wherever you find yourself, steering progress forward. With our collective vision and collaboration, we all can shape tomorrow’s progress for Africa.”
