The Argentine released the following statement to Chelsea fans following the news of his departure: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history,” he said.
The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come,” the 52-year-old added.
Many have been shocked by the news considering Chelsea’s impressive finish to the season, as well as the emergence of Cole Palmer as one of the league’s best players under Poch.
A report from The Telegraph appears to shed a bit more light on exactly how they came to the decision of ‘mutual agreement’.
According to the report there were ‘no disagreements over who should be in charge of transfers or which players should or should not be sold.’
The issues were claimed to be more ‘philosophical and related to the dynamics of working within a club structure.’
The report continued: “Nobody wanted to make a rash decision that could later be regretted so all parties agreed to sleep on day one of the meeting and reconvene on Tuesday morning.”
Due to nothing changing on either side Pochettino and the club caim to the conclusion it would be better for him to leave Stamford Bridge now, rather than risk a more fiery exit next season were the club would be in a more difficult position to replace him.
Pochettino appeared to be popular in the Chelsea dressing room and Noni Madueke was the first to make comment with a tribute to Pochettino on Instagram.
Roberto De Zerbi is the current favourite to take after it was announced he would be leaving Brighton.
