All previous codes for data subscription, recharge, and balance checking are no longer valid.
From May 17, 2023, the major telecommunications providers in Nigeria, including MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9Mobile, will use a uniform set of shortcodes for all services.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which ordered the change, mandates that all mobile network carriers use the same code for services going forward.
As a result, the single codes for all services across all cell networks will be easier for Nigerians to memorize.
The significance of the new shortcodes
Each telecom operator had a distinct code for checking balances, recharging, borrowing credit, etc. prior to the harmonisation.
Multiple-line subscribers were obliged to learn various operator codes as a result.
To conduct credit recharges, balance checks, and other telecom services, all telecoms will now use the same code thanks to the harmonised codes.
What happened to the previous network codes?
All previous codes used to recharge, subscribe for data, and check balance, among other things, would stop working, according to a report dated May 17, 2023.

Here are the new codes that the NCC has approved:
300 is the code for the call center/help desk on all
mobile networks
301 for voice mail deposits
302 for Voice Mail Retrieval
303 for Borrow Services
305 for STOP Service;
310 for “Check Balance”
3111 is for credit recharge.
312 is for Data PIan
321 is for Share services.
323 is for Data Plan Balance
996 is now for verification of subscriber identity
module (SIM) registration or NIN-SIM linkage.
2442 is retained for Do-Not-Disturb (DND)
unsolicited messaging complaint management.
3232 is also retained for porting services; otherwise
called mobile number portability.
Phones, watches, and ATMs will all be converted by CBN.
According to a different story, the CBN is getting ready to provide guidelines to encourage the secure and effective use of contactless payments in Nigeria.
Standards for issuing and accepting contactless payments are covered, along with technical and operational requirements, security precautions, and standards.
