Popular Hausa political praise singer, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, who is known for his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former President Muhammadu Buhari, recently said that he believes the ex-president is responsible for destroying Nigeria. Rarara gained fame through his many praise songs for the former president but now says that he supported Buhari in good faith, thinking he would turn things around for the better. He regrets that support now. He believes that the four months of Tinubu’s government have been far better than Buhari’s eight years in office. During Buhari’s time in power, kidnapping and banditry escalated, but since the start of the current administration, that has reduced drastically.
He claims that it was Buhari who removed fuel subsidies from the budget, not President Tinubu. He says Tinubu’s only mistake was not explaining to the country that Buhari had already removed it. The famous singer argues that Buhari destroyed every ministry and parastatal, but the party stalwarts were too scared to point that out. He believes he needs to state the facts.
Many Nigerians have mixed feelings about the Buhari administration. His supporters believe he tried his best to fight corruption and secure the country against terrorism. Others, like Rarara, believe that he ruined the economy and ignored the plight of the people. The current administration under Tinubu has promised to turn things around and put the country on the path to prosperity. Only time will tell if that promise is kept.
Rarara’s comments about Buhari highlight the tension within the APC and the need for the party to come together and work towards a common goal.
