Gone are the days when the North Londoners would get rolled over by big teams – not just in games but also in transfers as we’ve seen many Arsenal players leave the Gunners for rival clubs.
Mikel Arteta has put a stop to that, and Manchester City’s attempt to lure one player away from Arsenal has failed.
Arsenal don’t just have one of the best teams in Europe right now, they have an incredible academy as well.
Per Mertesacker has done an outstanding job behind the scenes at the club, and Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar have done their bit as well.
One player Arsenal are really excited about for the future is Ethan Nwaneri.
The teenager, who turned 17 last week, broke the record to become the youngest player to make an appearance in the history of the Premier League in September 2022.
He is an extraordinary talent, and Charles Watts has claimed that Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City. as well as Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea, were keen to sign him.
However, Arteta intervened, had a chat with Nwaneri and convinced him to stay at the club.
Watts wrote in his Daily Briefing: “As far as I’m aware, Ethan Nwaneri’s first professional deal will be confirmed very soon. It’s been agreed for a long time and he has now turned 17, so confirmation should follow imminently.
Getting him signed up is a big boost for Arsenal because there was a time not so long ago that people at the club were resigned to losing him. Both Chelsea and Manchester City
were pushing very hard to get him and it was looking very likely that he would leave.
“But Arsenal kept trying to persuade him to resist what they were offering and to stay put and I understand Mikel Arteta took a very active role in that.”
Ethan Nwaneri is an incredible young player, there’s no debate there.
The 17-year-old has already made his way into the Premier League record books, and we’re convinced he has a huge future ahead of him at Arsenal.
Nwaneri was given his second-ever opportunity in the Premier League this season. He came on as a substitute in the 6-0 win over West Ham United in February and impressed everyone, including Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice.
The Arsenal number seven hailed Nwaneri as a ‘baller’ after the game, while Rice called him a ‘special, special talent!’
